Attention! Are you a Guru chaser?
Nowadays, a lot of people have somehow become guru chasers. They are fond of talking about how many tulkus they have recently met, and how many empowerments they have received. This has become some kinds of a trend among Dharma practitioners. If such routine has become the goal of our Buddhism practice, then what is the difference between us and those celebrities’ fans?
The human body is hard to acquire, if we haven’t meditated on this, How could we say we have anything to do with our guru’s state of realization. It is the guru’s Buddha Dharma we are after, not the guru himself. We should seek for his realized mind, and wish the merits and virtues of the Buddha one day will arise in our own mind. In doing so, even we don’t pay many visits to our gurus, we may still receive complete blessing.
While we spend our days visiting gurus elsewhere and hope for receiving some forms of blessings instead of staying in one place and meditating, we will be very much like spraying water on a pebble: wet on the surface, dry in the core. This should not be the purpose of following a master, practicing Buddha Dharma, or learning Buddhism.
Stay alert upon your purpose. It is not to a game of guru chasing. The Dharma, the practicing and the meditates, these are the basics we really need.
