触犯誓言及四因:对境、思想、方式和究竟。于密宗根本誓言而言,对境为金刚上师和道友;思想指违誓之人神智清明;方式是身语意三门造业,殴打、诋毁金刚上师或道友;究竟指金刚上师或道友被殴打或听到诋毁诽谤之词。如是圆满上述四因者,称为破根本誓言;仅具备一因、二因或三因者,称为犯根本誓言。
《无垢忏悔续》中曰:“百字明是一切善逝的智慧精华,能够净除所失毁的戒律与分别念的罪障,堪称为一切忏悔之王。倘若一次性念诵一百零八遍,便可酬补一切所失之戒,不会堕入三恶趣。任何一位瑜伽行者如果能发誓念诵,不但此人今生会被三世诸佛视为胜妙长子而加以护佑,而且命终之后也无疑会成为诸佛的长子。”故应立下誓言:每日念诵二十一遍百字明和一百零八遍金刚萨垛心咒忏悔业障。

Violating vows has four causes: objects, thought, method and completion. With regard to root vows in Tantrayana object refers to Vajra gurus and dharma friends; thoughts meas the person violating vows is in a sane state; method means taking actions through the three doors of body, speech and mind, such as beating or slandering Vajra gurus or dharma friends; completion means Vajra gurus or friends have suffered the beating physically or heard the words of slandering. If the four causes are all fulfilled, it is called breaking root vows; if only one, two or three causes are met, it is called violating root vows.
It is stated in “The Tantra of Immaculate Confession” that a-hundred-syllable mantra
is the essence of wisdom of all Sugatas and can purify the sins of violating precepts and eliminate obstacles of discrimination. Thus, it is called the king of purification. Chanting it for 108 times continuously can repair all lost or broken precepts and can prevent someone from degenerating into the three evil destinies. Any yogi who swears to chant will not only be regarded as the superior eldest son of all Buddhas of the three times and get their bless in this life, but also will definitely become their eldest son after death. Therefore, we should take a vow to chant the mantra for 21 times and the core mantra of Vajrasattva for 108 times every day to purify our karma.
