We believe that freedom is to buy whatever we like, to go wherever we want, and to do whatever we love. However, we don’t realize that our restriction is neither financial support nor other supportive matters. Instead, it is our mind that limits us. In other words, our restriction is the cause and effect of manifestation that comes from our mind’s positive and negative thoughts. Therefore, true freedom is not to buy whatever we want, but to appreciate what we own at this moment, to be happy with achievement, and to ease the pain of loss.
Neither be ecstatic nor feel depressed about any gain or loss. Moreover, controlling our mind to do what we should do freely and adopting or rejecting the cause and effect cautiously, rather than being out of control or doing what should not be done due to habitual tendency.
True freedom is no restrictions, no impediments, no limitations. It means that no matter how terrible the external environment is, there is no bad mood that traps us. The restrictions are also not conditions or somethings brought by others, but the shackles of the mind.
Dharma could help us unbolt these formless and huge shackles from different aspects. Thus, what we need to do is accumulating merits to meet the Dharma, follow it, and practice it. By doing so, we could break the shackles and experience true freedom.
