As the verse goes, “What you must understand is that the transcendent truths and the primordial wisdom are all based on the accumulation of the provisions and spiritualization of the obstacles and that with the blessings from the Guru. Those who rely on other phenomena are very foolish, indeed.” The Guru is the source of all blessings, and he is also the root of the transcendent and common accomplishment. He removes the bad circumstances and obstacles just like the sun and moon disperse deceptive gloom. The supreme tantras regard the Guru as Buddha, and with that faith, we enter the path, through which, our view, practice, conduct, and fruit will not leave the Guru. When the Guru and the disciple correspond with each other, the Guru’s blessings will inject into him like filled bottle pouring into an empty one and the disciple will ripe his enlightenment in a blink of eye. So, to rely on the Guru and to practice the Guru Yoga are indeed the heart marrow of the Ati Yoga.
Some may ask, “To generate the most faithful piety over a guru whose view hasn’t reach the perfect Buddhahood and to weakly generate a small amount of piety over a guru who has reached the Buddhahood, in which case a disciple will receive more blessings?” Surely it is the first one. Bhikshu Sunaksatra and Devadatta, even though they have the Buddha Shakyamuni personally manifested himself in front of them, they received none blessings.
In “The Crucial Knack of Multiple Vehicles” choeje Jigme Phuntsok Rinpoche said, “No matter who, wise or a fool, if he has faith in his Guru, the wisdom and auspicious experiences will surely arise in his mental continuum. In my experience, of those disciples I accepted in the past, comparing to those smart ones, the slower disciples who recognize the view swiftly owed to his stronger piety to his Guru.” There’s only a thin gap between the Liberation and Samsara. If faith fulfilled, one will recognize his ontology right at that moment and achieve liberation. If faith deviates, even he spends thousands of years practicing; he will not transcend the bitter sea of samsara.
Today is the Feast-Offering Day of the Dakini, with faithful piety let’s pray to the Guru, the Yidam, the Dakini, the protective deities and Buddha Dharma. May the blessings of the Guru as well as all buddhas fill us like full bottles pouring, and integrate the blessings into the mental continuum of all sentient being including us.
